Mind Body Project

What to expect from a visit to Mind Body Project? A little meditation, a serious workout — and a lot of epic ArtStar art. In short, just about everything that does a mind — and body — good.

Fitness and meditation can play such a fundamental role in mental health. I wanted to create an environment that reflects our in-studio experience. Calm and cool for the meditation, pops of color and texture for the workout. ArtStar’s clean, contemporary collection of artwork was a natural choice.

Q&A with Cassandra

Q: How do you approach the curation of a new project?

A: The first step in curating an artwork selection for a new project is to get to know the client and their goals. Art and design are very personal. Each client/project has a feeling that they aim to achieve through careful selection and placement of art. My goal is to find out what the client connects to, what moves them deeply and what atmosphere they are hoping to create within their space. This enables me to curate a selection of artwork that embodies the unique goals of each project and to propose artworks that the client feels personally connected to.

Q:  ..And this specific project with Mind Body?

A: Mind Body Project was a really fun space to work with. Chris had such clear goals of how he wanted the space to look and feel. His vision for the space was closely tied to the Mind Body Project client's experience from start to finish and we wanted to mimic that experience with the art - from the calming start to the fiery ascent to the grounding finish. The artwork we chose and the placement reflects the client's journey throughout the class and enhances their overall experience while in the studio.

Q: How does art affect one's mood / mental health?

A: Art has tremendous power when it comes to mental health. When you see a bright and bold piece of art you feel instantly energized. On the other hand, soothing colors and shapes have the power to regulate the nervous system and create a sense of calm and inner peace. Art has been proven to elevate one's mood and positively impact one's state of mind.

Q: Can you share some insight into choosing the right frames for a space / for the art?

A: Aside from selecting the artwork itself, the second most important aspect of curation is choosing the right size and framing option. My goal when proposing sizes and framing is to find the right balance between the needs of the space and the framing option that best highlights the artwork itself. The overall design and color story of a space impacts these decisions as do the wall size and other elements that affect how/where the artwork will "live" in a space. The goal with sizing and framing is to achieve harmony with the overall design.
