Project:
Artwork placement for model units in TF Cornerstone's newest addition to the Long Island City waterfront at 5241 Center Blvd in Hunter’s Point South.
Art is inherently taste specific, so it can be challenging finding pieces that are timeless, unique and universally appealing, as well as affordable, but not so affordable and universally appealing that it has been mass-produced. Artstar succeeded in satisfying both my curatorial desires as well as my practical needs

Development Highlights
“Living on the Long Island City waterfront, surrounded by nature, while having the city that never sleeps only a train stop away, is a miracle of proximity and practicality. The breeze, the light, the trees, and the open space are rejuvenating in a way that we never fully recognized before the pandemic. 5241 Center Blvd and the Hunter’s Point South waterfront neighborhood is a tonic for every generation.”
The apartments offer a range of unique features including brilliant and unobstructed views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline, modern finishes, flexible layouts, generous closets, private outdoor space, in-unit washer dryers and dual building amenity access with 5203 Center Blvd.
Q&A
Q: Why did you choose ArtStar for this project?
A: I always have my eyes peeled for creative collaborations, and it just so happened that when I came across Artstar online, I was also in the middle of the planning stages for model apartments at 5241 Center Blvd, a new luxury rental property on the Long Island City waterfront.
Q: How did you approach the design of the model units?
A: When it comes to any residential project, a great deal of time, thought and coordination goes into determining the apartment layouts, and we take a lot of pride in the quality and functionality of our final product. I like to think that our apartments rent themselves, but I also know that some people have a difficult time imagining themselves living in a space unless it is staged. I also don’t like to over furnish the model apartments. I think it enhances the in-person experience when you can actually move around the space. Large-scale wall art does a great job of bringing character to a space without controlling how the individual would choose to live in it.
Q: What drew you to the artworks/artists you selected for this project?
A: I started with a pretty hefty wishlist just based off of what caught my eye, and then narrowed it down from there for various reasons - one of them being knowledge of which artists were based in NY. I am drawn to work with a dream-like quality, pieces that celebrate escapism, and portals - so of course works by Minjin-Mijoo and Tom Fabia appealed to me. Personally, I am partial to black & white photography, and while I do my best to detach from my personal tastes when trying to appeal to the masses, I also think; you can never go wrong with anything in greyscale, so Steven Clouse’s B+W Pacific City series was a no-brainer for me.
