NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

"I wanted to photograph the pools to show the beauty of the architecture, while minimising the modern elements. I love the geometry of the tiles, the lines on the bottom of the pool and the typography of the signs. Since my first Poolside exhibition in 2018, I have travelled to London, Paris, Manchester and Glasgow to add to my collection. Focusing on composition, carefully using blocks of colour to show interesting shape and proportion. The eye is drawn to the architecture, then the symmetry and reflections, and finally to the models, which feels more intimate.‘Although my first collections were heavily inspired by my love of Wes Anderson's work, I’ve also been looking to other cinematic imagery from directors like Terrence Malick and Stanley Kubrick, while still keeping my signature style.’ We are so lucky to still have these beautiful old pools and maybe the photographs will remind people how lovely they are." -Soo Burnell

SOO BURNELL

Growing up in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, photographer Soo Burnell constantly found inspiration in the iconic buildings and architecture surrounding her. Following a project at Glenogle Baths, a pool she swam in as a child, Soo was reintroduced to the beauty of the architecture and the serenity found in these spaces. Soo began photographing other landmark pools in Edinburgh with the intention of capturing their striking architecture and, by contrast, the stillness housed within. This led to her first exhibition, poolside, in 2018. Since then, Soo has gone on to photograph many historic pools across the UK and in Europe, and these images can be found in Soo’s first book, To The Water, which was published in 2021. Recently, Soo has launched her Cinema collection, showcasing two cinemas: The Scotsman Picture House in Edinburgh and the Regent Street Cinema in London, both of which were chosen for their architecture and historic references. This summer Soo will release and exhibit her new collection, I am home, returning her focus to Edinburgh’s dramatic architecture with some of her favourite buildings and spaces, captured with her distinctive aesthetic.

All Frames Include:

  • UV-blocking acrylic plexiglass
  • Acid-free, archival materials
  • 100% natural wood molding with a deep profile. 

Frame Specifications:

  • Extra small and small frames: .75" molding, 2" mats, 1.2" deep
  • Medium and large frames: 1" molding, 3" mats, 2" deep
  • Matless frames have a spacer to prevent print from touching the acrylic. 

Return and Exchange Policy

ArtStar does not accept returns. Each order is custom-made just for you.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders:

  • If your work is damaged or you received the wrong image, please contact us at hello@artstar.com or call 212.995.5352 within 14 days of receiving your order.
  • Please include photos of the shipping box, detailed shots of the damage, and your order number in your email.

Warehouses and 3rd Party Receivers:

  • All work must be checked and approved upon arrival if shipped to a warehouse or 3rd party receiver, including art installers, framers, storage, or onsite contractors.
  • Ownership of the work transfers once checked in at the warehouse and is no longer the responsibility of ArtStar.
  • We recommend shipping to an art storage facility over a non-climate controlled warehouse.
