STRATA II LEFT

Strata captures the profound transformation of Arizona and Utah’s landscapes, shaped over 200 million years by sedimentation, erosion, and tectonic forces. The series showcases dramatic sandstone formations—wave-like curves, rugged pinnacles, and deep canyons—sculpted by wind and water. Vivid hues of red, orange, and white, colored by iron oxide and silica, reflect the dynamic processes that shaped these terrains. Strata celebrates nature’s timeless cycle of creation and erosion, reminding us of its power to craft beauty and shape our perception of the world.

About the Piece

Luca Marziale, born in Lugano, Switzerland, is an accomplished photographer renowned for his abstract micro-landscapes. Using a medium-format film Hasselblad camera, he captures natural elements and intricate patterns in extreme environments, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. By shifting perspectives and creating micro-landscapes, Marziale challenges conventional notions of landscape photography, creating images that invite viewers to see the world anew. A BFA graduate from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, Marziale has exhibited his large-scale prints in important solo and group shows, including SCOPE (Art Show Basel and Miami), The Other Art Fair (London), and CONTEXT (New York City). His work has also been featured by the United Nations, National Geographic, and New Scientist.
