A BABY'S BOOKSHELF

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams was one of my favorite books as a young child. There is a bit where the Skin Horse is speaking to the Rabbit and tells him that real isn't how you are made, it's a thing that happens to you. To me there is magic and truth in that idea - that we become real by being loved, and so do the objects we surround ourselves with. So, the Bookshelf pieces are inspired by the books and stories themselves and by the idea that to read a book over and over, to live with it and to love it, makes it real and connects it forever to the life of the reader.

About the Piece

Dive into the world of Kendyll, an artist and commercial illustrator celebrated for her mesmerizing traditional artistry. Her work is almost entirely created with traditional media, including watercolor, colored pencil, and oils—especially in her fine art. With a BFA in painting earned in 2008, Kendyll beautifully captures the emotional essence and storytelling power of food, people, animals, wildlife, and everyday objects. Her compelling visuals have attracted prestigious clients like Coca-Cola, Conde Nast, Good Culture, Oprah Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and many more. Kendyll's work was featured as a Chosen Winner in American Illustration issue 43. In 2023, she collaborated with one of her ongoing clients and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to create a painting that was signed by inductees and auctioned for charity, raising more than $7,000 for Girls Inc.   • 100% natural wood molding with a deep profile. 

Frame Specifications:

  • Extra small and small frames: .75" molding, 2" mats, 1.2" deep
  • Medium and large frames: 1" molding, 3" mats, 2" deep
  • Matless frames have a spacer to prevent print from touching the acrylic.
