In 2011, CP contrib and art curator Chrissy Crawford launched her online gallery, ArtStar, and in doing so, she revolutionized the world of contemporary art. Collaborating with leading contemporary artists, the company provides a highly curated selection of authenticated, signed and numbered fine art prints starting at $25. The story behind ArtStar’s creation is almost as beautiful as the work it sells: when the recession hit and galleries were shuttered, many of Crawford’s friends lost their jobs and looked to her for help; already frustrated by the gap between “fast” and “fine” art, she knew it was her time to strike and soon, her e-gallery was born. Now on the radar of publications like The New York Times and ELLE Décor, the company gives a global platform to renowned and rising artists while inspiring new and younger collectors to jump into the art scene. So, how does it all work? Well, clients click through the site’s rotating collection, select their print, mat and framing preferences, then ArtStar takes care of the rest (including printing museum-quality prints and delivering directly to the buyer’s door). Complete with an authenticity card, artist’s signature and edition number, your newest pièce de resistance may cost the same as your dorm room Marilyn poster, but it certainly won’t look like it.
